6 ways to change the world
Every morning I go to the gym and listen to the Anthem Lights playlist as I workout. Call me crazy, but there is something about the melody and harmony of these guy's voices that gets me pumped. I have been wanted to write about one of their songs on my playlist for awhile, and after hearing it once again today, I knew it was time.
If you don't know who Anthem Lights is you are probably not alone. They are most well known for their mashups and renditions of other artist's songs. They have a particular song that they "mashed" of the 2015 Christian song hits. I get it, this sounds dated already. But the organization and power in the message was too prevalent to pass by. In our current world of volcanic destruction, mass school shootings, and seemingly senseless violence and famine, this collection of songs is a cry to God of what we are to do about it!
As a Christian, I am often overwhelmed. In a world of hurt I find myself questioning God, devastated with guilt, and motivated with a passion to do something all at once. But what can I do?
Enter, Anthem Lights:
I woke up this morning
Saw a world full of trouble now
Thought, how’d we ever get so far down
How’s it ever gonna turn around
So I turned my eyes to Heaven
I thought, “God, why don’t You do something?”
Well, I just couldn’t bear the thought of
People living in poverty
Children sold into slavery
The thought disgusted me
So, I shook my fist at Heaven
Said, “God, why don’t You do something?”
Love like I'm not scared
Give when it's not fair
Live life for another
Take time for a brother
Fight for the weak ones
Speak out for freedom
You need to hear this song for yourself, so I have included the video link below. In a world swirling with poverty, slavery, and simply put, trouble, it is easy to find myself shaking my fist at God. However, the reality is he has provided a solution: me. Not just me (that certainly will not get the job done), but all of us.
Love like you are not scared.
Give when it's not fair.
Live life for others.
Take time for others.
Fight for the weak ones.
Speak out for freedom.
The song goes on to ask the question: if not us then who? We can not wait for someone else to come along and pick up where we have slacked off. It takes everyone doing there part and we can change this world; but only when we do it together.
Where can you make a difference? What is holding you back? What of the 6 things above can you begin doing immediately? Let's make a difference. Let's change the world.
