The love that hung on a tree.

The love that hung on a tree.

The season of love has arrived and the air is filled with blended feelings. While some are enjoying the company and the gifts of their loved one, others remember the loss of theirs. It is the season of laughs and tears and joy and grief. A reminder is necessary of the unceasing, unfailing love that all humanity receives. A reminder of a God who loves his creation so completely, he was willing to suffer and die for it.

The Savior who loves you says so from above you,
From high on a hill and hung up on a tree.
The Savior who loves you cries so from above you,
His blood paints a picture of love you can see.

Jesus did not slide you a love letter across a candlelit dinner, nor did he whisper his love into your ear as you gazed out into a brilliant night sky. He did not tell you he loves you from a penthouse suite, or snuggled under a blanket on the couch in your house. Jesus' love comes down from the wooden cross where he hung with his hands punctured and his side pierced. He did not simply say that he loved you, but he died to show you he loved you in the most powerful way imaginable: “God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).
